Windell Crews, Sr.

Mr. Windell Houston Crews, Sr., 82, husband of Anne Dreyfuss Crews and resident of Luray Highway near Hampton, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at his residence.

Born October 6, 1943, at home in Patterson, Georgia, Windell was the son of the late Rupert Crews and the late Alice Brown Crews. He was a graduate of Wade Hampton High School in Varnville and worked many years as a salesman for Westinghouse in Hampton. Windell and Anne also notably owned and operated Western Auto, which was also operated by Anne’s parents, for over 35 years. Many will remember Windell’s friendly personality and ability to connect with others.

Windell accomplished many things over the years such as serving in 1984 and 1985 as Mayor of Varnville and formerly working a brief tenure as a police officer. Most importantly, his greatest accomplishment was his family which he loved. Windell will be remembered for his love of riding motorcycles as well as horses and other animals; having cared for many who just showed up to his property over the years.

Surviving are his loving wife, Anne Dreyfuss Crews, of the home; his son, Windell H. Crews, Jr. (Melanie) of Hampton; his daughter, Christine C. Cook (Marty) of Hampton; his four grandchildren: Mallory Hazel (Micheal), Connor Cook (Miley), Cameron Cook, and Houston Crews, and two great-grandchildren, Crews Hazel and Moss Cook. He is also survived by his brother, Jimmie Crews (Marie) of Brunson; a special friend, Don Crews of Hampton, and a host of friends and extended relatives.

In accordance with Windell’s wishes, there are no formal services scheduled at this time. Family members will have a private service with burial in the Hampton Cemetery.
