William Marion Peeples

William "Billy" Marion Peeples (March 13, 1951 to February 8, 2024), 72, passed away on February 8, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernelle and LJ Gibson and Marion Peeples, and stepson, Joe Bowen. He is survived by his wife of almost 23 years, Sandy Peeples, of Hampton, daughters Tara Peeples (Shannon) and Brooke Shaffer Price (Chris) both of Greensboro, NC, stepson Jeffrey Bowen of Flint, Michigan; siblings Wanda Atkinson (Don), Russell Gibson, Dana Gibson (Dawn) all of Hampton, and Jodi Dennie (Steve) of Dallas, TX. He also cherished his grandchildren, Savannah Shaffer, Christopher Shaffer, Knox Peeples, Charlotte Price, step grandchildren Alex Bowen, Xavier Witt, Jayden Bowen, and great granddaughter Josie Witt along with his treasured nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in Hampton, SC, Billy was larger than life. He loved small town living, and he also enjoyed travel and took opportunities to move around to impact more people and to enrich his family's life. He spent a large portion of his adult years in Greensboro, NC where he started as a car salesman and rose to the ranks of management at Bob Dunn Ford before moving over to management at Clayton Homes for over 30 years. He was also a proud mason.

Billy was more than meets the eye in every way; you couldn't just call him a small town or a city man. Small town roots showed up in how he called everyone sir or ma'am and in how he knew what was happening everywhere, yet he enjoyed travel and watching his people do what they loved. No matter who was around, he was always sharing a story and chuckling at the seemingly simple joys of life. He was always up for a good time, and his favorite were times simply being with family and friends that were like family. He was endlessly proud of his daughters for their accomplishments, and he supported them and their families unconditionally and proudly in every way. While the family never imagined life without him, he will be remembered in using the woodworking projects he left behind, piddling around in the yard as he loved to do, cheering on his claimed alma mater, Clemson, watching a Western on repeat, enjoying a low country boil, or shagging to some beach music (cigar and cocktail optional). He was a people person, and to know him was to love him—we know we always will.

The family will receive visitors at the Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, Hampton Chapel at 300 Mulberry Street, West Hampton, SC on Tuesday, February 13 at 2:00.
