William Leslie "Ike" Rivers

Mr. William Leslie "Ike" Rivers, 91, of Bamberg Highway near Hampton died Saturday morning at his residence.

Mr. Rivers was born in Hampton County February 7, 1927, a son of the late Rufus Rowe Rivers and Lenora "Lee" Phillips Rivers.  He had retired after 34 years of service at the Westinghouse Plant in Hampton, and also operated a Heavy Equipment and Land Clearing Company.  He served in the Navy during World War II and enjoyed farming and fishing.

Surviving are:  daughters:  Emily Searson of Hampton, Barbara Tuten of Varnville, Patricia Mixon and husband John of Varnville, and Gail Jones of Rincon, Georgia;  son:  Michael Rivers and wife Glenda of Batesburg;  10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.  Mr. Rivers was predeceased by: his wife Emily Louise Loper Rivers; his sister:  Frances Hooker Bennett; and a grandson:  John H. Mixon, II.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Monday in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton conducted by Elder Robert Dobson, with burial in the Johnson-St. Paul Cemetery in Hampton.

Visitation will be Monday from 1 to 3 PM prior to services at the Funeral Home.
