Wilbur Tuten

ESTILL :  Wilbur Preston Tuten, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, deacon, friend, and businessman, passed away suddenly on November 6 at the age of 79. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Aileene Lawson Tuten; his daughter Susan Tuten Hartzog (Brian) and their children Evan Edward Hartzog and Emily Marie Hartzog of Rincon, Georgia; his son, Samuel Wilbur Tuten (Kim) and their children Samuel Alexander Tuten and Samantha Lynn Tuten of Johnsonville, South Carolina; his brother, Redden Tuten (Gloria) of Estill, South Carolina; his sister, Julia Irene Barker, of Estill, South Carolina; his sister, Hattie Lee Stanley, of Varnville, South Carolina; his sister-in-law, Lynette Reason (Wayne) of Centenary, South Carolina; his sisters-in-law, Leah Hadwin Tuten, Scotia, South Carolina and Catherine Nix Tuten of Estill, South Carolina as well as a host of nieces and nephews who made his life so blessed.

He was preceded in death by his parents Redden Tuten, Sr. and Viola Virie Tuten Crapse; his brothers, Reverend William Barney Tuten of Scotia, South Carolina, Reverend George Daniel Tuten of Estill, South Carolina; his sister, Sarah Clotele Tuten Hadwin of Pineland, South Carolina.

His church, Robertville Baptist, was so important in his life. He served as deacon, treasurer, and a myriad of other roles because He loved the Lord and His church.

Having lived his whole life in the Hampton County area, Wilbur was proud to say he was from Estill, where he loved to enjoy the natural resources of the beautiful rivers, streams, and forests as an avid fisherman and hunter. He graduated from Estill High School in 1961 and served in the Army National Guard.

For the past 56 years, Wilbur could be found behind a butcher's block serving the public daily and tirelessly by providing quality meats, produce and groceries to our community alongside his brother Redden. Their work at the IGA was a foundational fixture in our community where many found sustenance, friendship and the philosophy that epitomized the belief that the customer is always right.

Visitation will be held at Peeples Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton, South Carolina on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at Robertville Baptist Church, in Robertville, South Carolina at 3:00 p.m with internment to follow at the Robertville Cemetery.
