Mr. Doyle Wesley Murdaugh, 81, resident of Fort Howell Drive in Hilton Head Island, husband of Frances Wooten Murdaugh, passed away Saturday morning, April 26, 2025, at his residence.
Born September 15, 1943, in Ridgeland, SC, Mr. Murdaugh was the son of the late Cornelius Franklin Murdaugh and Gladys Erneal DeLoach Murdaugh. He was a graduate of Wade Hampton High School in Varnville and retired after working in construction for Harden Homes where he began in 1972. Mr. Murdaugh also faithfully served his country in the Army National Guard where he retired as a Sergeant First Class (E7). He will also be remembered for his love of hunting, shrimping, and fishing.
Mr. Murdaugh was a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church and served as President of the Hilton Head Area Home Builders Association in 2002 and 2003, where he was also awarded the 2005 Builder Member of the Year Award.
Surviving besides his wife, Mary Frances Wooten Murdaugh, of the home, is his son, Brian Murdaugh (Angie) of Bluffton; his daughters, Felicia Murdaugh Barnes (Ben) of Bluffton and Faye Murdaugh Dagley (Walter) of Lady's Island; his grandchildren, Walter Steven Dagley, Grace Murdaugh, Nathan Murdaugh, and Brayden Barnes; a sister, Loraine Ferguson of Beaufort, and a brother, Franklin Murdaugh of Hampton. There are also many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who survive.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Murdaugh was predeceased by his brothers: James, Clifton, and Ralph Murdaugh, and his sisters, Joann Pittinger and Mary Peeples.
Funeral Services will be 2 PM Friday, May 2, 2025, in the Sand Hill Baptist Church near Varnville. Burial will follow in the DeLoach Family Cemetery near Estill.
A visitation will be 5 PM – 7 PM Thursday evening, May 1, 2025, at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry St. W., Hampton, SC 29924.
Pallbearers will be Walter Steven Dagley, Nathan Murdaugh, Brayden Barnes, Ben Barnes, Duane Pittinger, and Benny Stanley.
Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home is assisting the Murdaugh family during this time.
