Mr. Larry Wayne Bowers, 79, resident of Deer Drive in Hampton County, passed away at his residence, Friday evening, September 6, 2024.
Born May 10, 1945, in Savannah, Georgia, Wayne was the son of the late Willie A. Bowers and Roberta Jarrell Bowers. He worked alongside his father in the salvage industry but also farmed for most of his life. He was a wonderful husband to his wife, Jessie Marie Cook Bowers, who he married on September 4, 1970. Wayne will also be remembered for his love for animals, having rescued many fur babies over the years, providing a home to any dog, cat, or chicken. He actively attended the Hampton Church of God of Prophecy.
Surviving are his loving wife who he recently celebrated 54 years of marriage with, Mrs. Marie Cook Bowers, of the home; one brother, Redmond Bowers of Allendale; one sister, Linda Kay Jarrell of Hampton; two sisters-in-law: Jackie Bowers of Hilda and Pat Bowers of Barnwell; a special niece, Annette Griswold of Brunson; a special nephew, Jeremy Bowers of Hampton; special family friends: Edward and Allison Anderson, and Phillip and Megan Nix of Brunson; two very special great-nephews who he looked at as grandchildren, A.J. Bowers of Aiken and Kyle Bowers of Florida, and a host of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins who he loved dearly. Wayne may not have had any children of his own, but he played a crucial role in the lives of his numerous nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces.
Wayne is predeceased by three brothers, Willis Bowers, Carlton Bowers, and Jimmy Lee Bowers; a brother-in-law, Jacob L. "Tuda" Jarrell; two sisters-in-law, Cathy Bowers Pope and Joanne Bowers, and a special nephew, Anthony Bowers.
Funeral Services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, September 11, 2024, in the Hampton Church of God of Prophecy conducted by Paster Gilbert Linder, with burial to follow in the Nixville Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 5 PM – 7 PM Tuesday evening, September 10, 2024, at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry St. W., Hampton, SC 29924.
The family requests, that those who wish, may send memorials in Wayne's name to the Nixville Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery.
