"Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that is how I will remember you all. If you can only remember me with tears, then don't remember me at all."
Martha Vickers "Vick" Harrelson, 73, daughter of the late Amaryllis Newsome Tyler and James Wendell Tyler, died August 18, 2025, after a brief illness.
Vick was born and raised in Allendale, SC. She attended the Brunson School, graduated Allendale-Fairfax High School, and was a graduate of Winthrop College. She also completed 18 post graduate hours at the University of South Carolina.
Vick touched many lives in Allendale County, and beyond, having worked in public education with Allendale County Schools (29 years). While recruited, numerous times, by different administration's throughout her teaching career to pursue Administrative certification, her true and life-long passion was always teaching, and touching the lives of, children in the classroom; that is and always was where she believed she could make the biggest impact. After retiring from her beloved teaching career, she was employed by Allendale County Hospital (11 years) where she worked in the local doctor's offices as a receptionist, scheduler, and patient registration clerk. Vick also bled Garnet and Black and loved all Carolina Gamecock sports (especially her beloved National Championship Women's Basketball team), and her little four legged companion of the last 11 years, Cash. A lifelong member of the Brunson Methodist Church, she served her church faithfully in capacities as Sunday School Superintendent, Youth Sunday School teacher, member of the church choir, and also served on numerous other committees to include Administrative Council, PPRC, and most recently as a member of the Board of Trustees.
Graveside Memorial Services will be Monday, August 25th, at 11:00 a.m. at Brunson Cemetery with the Reverend Carol Holladay officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 24th, at the home of her son located at 548 Baker Blvd, Estill, SC 29918.
