Teresa Clayton

Teresa E. Clayton, 74, of Walterboro, South Carolina, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

She was born on January 22, 1952, in Savannah, Georgia, to the late Roy Richard Clayton and Opal Junita Sutton.

Teresa was a woman of incredible spirit—fierce, deeply giving, and fiercely loyal to those she loved. She had a passion for history and was an avid reader, always eager to learn and explore stories of the past. Her hands were rarely still, as she poured her creativity and care into the beautiful quilts she loved to make. Teresa also thoroughly enjoyed shopping and, above all, stayed deeply connected to her inner circle. She could frequently be found calling the people who meant the most to her, ensuring they always knew they were on her mind and in her heart. She was the anchor of her family, and her loss leaves a profound void.

Teresa was preceded in death by her beloved spouse, Stanley Eugene Cressey; her parents, Roy Richard Clayton and Opal Junita Sutton; her daughter, Markita Corbitt; her brothers, Richard Clayton and Ronald Clayton; and her granddaughter, Gracie Lydia Ann Thurman.

Her legacy of love lives on through her surviving family. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Melinda Wynn (Ashley), Melanie Anderson (Brian), Katie Kirby (Bruce), and Samantha Thurman. She also leaves behind to cherish her memory her 17 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and several special nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

Memorial Services will be 10 AM Friday, June 26, 2026, in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry St. W., Hampton, SC 29924.
