Sara Sue Wood

Mrs. Sara Sue Boyles Wood, 83, resident of Beaufort, SC, formerly of Hampton, died late Monday evening, January 27, 2025, at Harbor Cove Memory Care in Hilton Head, after an extended illness.

Born February 11, 1941, in Hampton County, Mrs. Wood was the daughter of the late Charles M. Boyles, Sr. and Sue Rivers Boyles. She was raised in Hampton and graduated from Wade Hampton High School and later Columbia College, where she earned a bachelor's degree in education. Mrs. Wood retired after teaching for many years in the Hampton County school system.

Mrs. Wood was a member of the Hampton First Baptist Church and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Surviving is her son, James Mikell Wood (Kristy) of Beaufort; her daughter, Vicki Wood Kinard (John) of Fairfax; one sister, Jackie Boyles Walker (Bob) of Dublin, GA; one brother, Charles Boyles, Jr. of Hampton; four grandchildren:  Brandon Malcolm Kinard (Rachel) of Fairfax, Katherine Kinard Royal (Matthew) of Statesboro, GA, Morgan Wood Peeples (Chase) of Hampton, and Madison Wood (fiancé Andrew Purdy) of Hampton. There are also five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wood is predeceased by her husband, James "Jimmy" Henry Wood, Jr.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held 11 AM Thursday, January 30, 2025 in the Varnville Cemetery conducted by Rev. Emerson Wiles.

Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home is assisting the Wood family during this time.
