Rogers Cope

Mr. Rogers Ellison Cope, 96, of Varnville, died Thursday afternoon, March 11, 2021 at his residence.

Mr. Cope was born September 23, 1924 in Hampton County, a son of the late John Frederick Cope and Jemima Thames Cope Smith.  He had retired from Westinghouse Corporation in Hampton as an inspector and was also a farmer.  He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.

Surviving is his wife Mrytis Marie Winn Cope of Varnville; sons Don Cope of Hampton and Fred Cope of Varnville; and daughters Mary Ann Walling and husband Ralph of Sumter and Marie Samoros and husband Thomas of Greer.  There are 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 3 PM Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Hopewell Baptist Church conducted by Rev. D.W. Feaster with burial in the Thames Cemetery directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home.

Visitation will begin Sunday at 2 PM prior to the service at Hopewell Baptist Church.
