Mr. Robert Harold “Bobby” Harmon, Sr., 81, husband of Brenda Gill Harmon and resident of Lightsey Street in Varnville, SC, passed away Friday evening, July 10, 2026, at his residence after an extended illness.
Born June 14, 1945, in Darlington, SC, Mr. Harmon was the son of the late Harold “Bo” Harmon and the late Thomasine Harper Harmon. He worked in various capacities over his life – notably he worked as a skilled paramedic, police officer, deputy sheriff, and most recently in retail. Known to his family as a “jack of all trades,” Mr. Harmon enjoyed making jewelry, cutting coins, and fishing. Most importantly, he deeply loved people. . . especially his family who will miss his “gift of gab”. . . always being able to strike up a conversation with those around him.
He attended Open Arms Fellowship in Hampton. Additionally, he was also one of the founding members of Operation Christmas Rescue in Hampton County. For many years he devotedly coordinated and delivered toys and meals to the underprivileged throughout the area. He did mission work serving with Samaritans Purse and regularly volunteered a the Connexxion at the old skating rink in Hampton.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Brenda Lee Gill Harmon, of the home, are his children: Cindy H. Pittinger (Dean) of Cross, SC, Robert “Bobby” Harmon, Jr. of Cross, SC, Rhonda Harmon, MD of Sanford, FL, Tony DeLoach (Christine) of Brunson, SC, Tammy Carroll (Doug) of Early Branch, SC, and Jared DeLoach of Varnville, SC; his sister, Kathryn Bain (Dennis) of North Carolina, and a sister-in-law, Vivian Johnson of Hampton. There are also several well-loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who survive.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Harmon was predeceased by his brother, William Thomas “Tommy” Harmon.
Celebration of Life Services will be held 5 PM Tuesday, July 14, 2026, in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry St. W., Hampton, SC 29924.
Visitation will begin at 4 PM and last until the hour of the service in the Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be sent to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
