HAMPTON :   Mr. Richard Lewis Johnstone, 76, of 105 Johnstone Street in Hampton, entered his heavenly home after an extended illness Saturday morning, January 15, 2022.

"Rick" was born July 6, 1945 in Winchester, Kentucky a son of the late George Johnstone Jr. and June McNabb Johnstone.  He served his country in the United States Marine Corps for six years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam.  He also served with the South Carolina Army National Guard in Hampton for twenty-seven years.  Rick also served his community with the Hampton Police Department for ten years, and the Hampton County Sheriff's Department for twelve years.  He was a member of Hopewell First Baptist Church in Hampton, and was a big fan of Kentucky Wildcats Basketball.  While at home he enjoyed old television westerns.

Surviving are:  His wife of fifty-one years, Deloris McAlhaney Johnstone; his son: Kevin Johnstone (Alison) and his daughter: Tara Johnstone.  There are three grandsons whom he loved dearly, Bradford, Byron and Wells Johnstone.  He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mrs. Louise McAlhaney, three brothers-in-law, Ray McAlhaney (Kathy), Steve McAlhaney (Linda), and Mark McAlhaney (Joann) as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-nephews.

Rick is also survived by his "Kentucky Family": a sister-in-law Geneva Johnstone, an aunt, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rick was predeceased by his parents, by his brothers Ronald and Ralph Johnstone, by his sister Sharon Potts, and by a nephew, Jon Shannon Johnstone.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at 3:00 in the Hopewell First Baptist Church, with burial, including military honors, following in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, January 18, 2022 from 5:00 until 8:00 at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas PI, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105. In consideration of the current health situation that exists in the community, the family requests that masks be worn at all services.
