Mr. Richard Henry Winn, 46, resident of Parrish Green Lane in Estill, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, December 4, 2025, at his residence.
Born October 10, 1979, in the Hampton Hospital in Varnville, Richard was the son of Ronald Gowin "Breeze" Winn and the late Harriett June Seckinger Winn. He was a graduate of Wade Hampton High School and went on to graduate from the University of South Carolina – Salkehatchie as well as the University of South Carolina – Aiken, where he obtained degrees in history and political science. Richard also furthered his education by obtaining his certifications to be a paralegal. He worked many years at Piggly Wiggly in Varnville where he was over the frozen food department. Many who have come in contact with Richard at Piggly Wiggly would remember his kind demeanor and willingness to help others any way he could. Richard was a highly educated person who enjoyed studying many aspects of history; specifically English royal genealogy, functions of international government, and world history. Anything historical he could research he would. Richard was excellent with computers and had a knack for researching anything he wanted to know.
He was a member of Hampton First Baptist Church and the Model UN (United Nations) program hosted by Withrop University where he would often represent countries which others only had a limited knowledge of.
Surviving in addition to his father, Ronald "Breeze" Winn of Hampton, is his brother, David Gowin Winn of Estill; his uncle, Robert "Pie" Seckinger and his wife Harriett Smith Seckinger of Clyo, Georgia, and his two aunts, Madeline Winn Polk of Lexington and Wylene Seckinger of Hampton. There are also many dear cousins and friends who survive.
Richard was predeceased by his mother, Harriett June Seckinger Winn, who passed away exactly two weeks prior to Richard.
Memorial Services will be 10 AM Monday, December 15, 2025, in the Lawtonville Baptist Church in Estill. Burial will follow in the Lawtonville Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 9 AM prior to the service lasting until the hour of the service in the church sanctuary.
The family requests that those who wish send memorials to the funeral home, Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, 300 Mulberry St. W., Hampton, SC 29924.
Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home is assisting the Winn family during this time.
