Phillip L. Brogdon

Phillip Leon Brogdon, 64, of Varnville, South Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on August 18, 2026, at his residence. Phillip was born on December 2, 1961, to the late Arthur Fair Brogdon, Sr. of Metter, Georgia, and Essie Mae Wiggins Brogdon Cochran of Statesboro, Georgia.

Phillip was a former fabricator for Quality Roof Services, where he dedicated his skills and hard work throughout his career. He also had a profound love of animals and a gentle heart for all creatures. That compassion extended far beyond his own pets. Phillip dedicated his time to feeding and caring for stray cats throughout the area, making sure that even animals without a home knew kindness and were not forgotten. His fur babies were truly his family, and he cared for them with unwavering devotion. Phillip also enjoyed reading in his spare time and was a passionate history buff. 

More than anything, Phillip will be remembered for the kind of person he was. He was kind to everyone he met, always positive, and had a way of encouraging and inspiring those around him. He had a genuinely pure soul and a gentle spirit that could be felt by anyone fortunate enough to know him. His kindness was given freely, without expecting anything in return, and the positive impact he made on others will continue long after his passing. Phillip loved his family and friends deeply. Those who knew him knew just how much the people and animals he loved meant to him. 

Phillip’s sudden passing came far too soon. While his family and friends were not prepared to say goodbye, they will find comfort in the memories they shared, the love he gave, and the lasting place he will forever hold in their hearts. Phillip was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed. His life was an example of how much difference one kind, positive, and compassionate soul can make in the lives of others. Though his time here has ended, the kindness he showed, the lives he touched, and the love and memories he gave to those around him will live on forever. 

In addition to his parents Phillip was preceded in death by his siblings, Leila Brogdon Parker Odom of Metter, Georgia; Margaret Brogdon Lanier Stanfield of Claxton, Georgia; Arthur Fair “Buddy” Brogdon, Jr. of Powhatan, Virginia; and his half-brother, Libron Brogdon of Swainsboro, Georgia. Phillip was also preceded in death by his beloved fur babies, Jackie Blue and Harley, who held a special place in his heart. 

Phillip is survived by Susan Crews Grayson, the love of his life. His love for Susan was especially dear to his heart, and together they shared a life built on love, companionship, and deep understanding. Also at the home are his fur babies, Luke, Rusty, and Jacob, who brought him endless joy. 

He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Ann Brogdon Morris, Larry Brogdon (Patsy), and Ricky Brogdon, all of Statesboro, Georgia; Deborah Brogdon Sammons of Adrian, Georgia; Ronnie Brogdon (Ruthie) of Grays, South Carolina; and his half-sister, Sara Ann Brogdon Meeks of Brunswick, Georgia. In addition to those named above, Phillip leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews that he considered as his own children, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him greatly. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026, in the chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, 300 Mulberry Street West, Hampton, South Carolina 29924 at 11:00 a.m. 

The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to services. 

Burial will follow at Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 827 Antioch Church Road, Twin City, Georgia 30471. 

Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Morris, Daughton Brogdon, Gunner Stanley, Daniel Brogdon, Allen Stanfield and Justin Brogdon. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hampton County Animal Shelter and/or Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home.
