Peggy George

Mrs. Peggy Eunice Eargle George of Hampton, South Carolina, age 94, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Lowcountry Community Hospice House in Summerville, South Carolina.  She was the daughter of the late Paul Eugene and the late Eunice Allie Bishop Eargle of Jamestown, Berkeley, South Carolina.  She was the widow of Vincent Waldo George of Hampton, South Carolina.  She is survived by two daughters Patricia (Pattie) Rivers (James A.) and Peggy Diane (Dee Dee) Cope Powers (Rick) of West Liberty, Kentucky.  She has three grandchildren:  Natalie Rivers Fennell (Todd), Stephanie Rivers Carson (Dan) and Anna C. Cope.  She is survived by nine great-grandchildren:  Mickey C., Jordan McKenzie, and Sidney K. Fennell; Rivers M., Miles B., and Mary Daniel Carson; and Vincent C. Johnson, and Madison and Michael Simmons.  Mrs. George has two sisters, the late Dorothy Clarke (Julius) and Ms. Emma Eargle of Inman, South Carolina.  She has one niece, Debbie Clarke of Jamestown, SC and many other relatives throughout the southeast.

Mrs. George was born on June 13, 1928, the daughter of Paul Eugene and Eunice Allie Bishop Eargle of Jamestown, Berkeley, South Carolina.  She was reared in Jamestown, South Carolina, and graduated from Macedonia High School.  She attended Draughon's Business College in Columbia, South Carolina.  She subsequently met and was married to Vincent W. George of Columbia, SC.  They lived in Columbia, SC; Columbus, GA; and eventually settled in Hampton, South Carolina.  Peggy was employed by Parker Brothers Shoe Store in Hampton for about 30 years before she retired.  She is a member of Hampton Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon.

Mrs. Peggy was living at The Villages at Summerville, a Presbyterian Home, in Summerville in the "Nursing Home" for the past couple of years.  Prior to that she lived at Brookdale Assisted Living and before that she was a caring resident of Heartland.  Her family remembers her as a guiding light, a role model, and a faithful leader through the years.  Flowers will be accepted.  Donations will also be received for Agape Care South Carolina at AgapeCareGroup.com/SC at 1-800-932-2738 or the "Mother's Day Offering" at The Villages at Summerville.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday in the chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton, conducted by Dr. Al E. Eads, Jr. and Rev. Jack Diamond, with burial in the Beaver Dam Cemetery near Grays.  Visitation will be Tuesday beginning at 1:00 P.M. prior to the service at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton.
