Pearlie Rouse

Pearlie Sturkie Rouse of Luray, South Carolina passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday September 30, 2020 at the age of 95.  "Ms. Pearlie", as she was affectionately known, was born February 15, 1925 in Gaston, South Carolina.  She was a member of Beech Branch Baptist Church for 69 years and was the oldest member. She was the sole survivor of a family of 13 children born to Lillie and Frank Sturkie.  She graduated salutatorian from Fairfax High School before moving to Luray.  There she met the love of her life William "Dan" Rouse.  They were married 52 years before his passing in 2003.  Ms. Pearlie was an incredible cook. She loved to awake early in the morning and have meals prepared for the day.  "Hey Darling",  with her southern drawl, was her famous greeting that will always be remembered.

Pearlie is survived by four children, William (Bill) A. Rouse (Patti) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Virginia (Ginger) R. Raynor of Wilmington, NC; Emmett F. Rouse (Susan) of Luray, SC and Susan R. Bedwell (Jeff) of Fort Mill, SC; 6 Grandchildren,  8 Great-Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband William (Dan) A Rouse, Sons-in-law, William (Bill) Raynor and Allen L. Wickard, her parents and 12 brothers and sisters.

A special thanks to the numerous care givers that made her years after Dan's passing enjoyable and comfortable.

Private graveside services will be held Saturday October 3, 2020, 11AM at Beech Branch Cemetery. Services will be conducted by Reverend Jeffrey Bedwell and directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton, SC.
