Odis Wendall Sumler

Mr. Odis Wendall Sumler, 71, of Cardinal Road in Varnville died Sunday morning at his residence after an extended illness.

Mr. Sumler was born July 24, 1947 in Beaufort, a son of the late Odis Sumler and Annie Mae Smith Johnson.  He had retired from Westinghouse Corporation in Hampton after 36 years of service and had served in the Army.  He was a member of Spirit of Life Ministries and enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his family.

Surviving are his wife:  Linda Paige Sumler of Varnville;  son:  Steven Wayne MacNeir and wife Felecia of Early Branch;  daughter:  Amber Denise Sumler of Varnville;  sister:  Elaine Hughes and husband Charles of Summerville;  step-sister:  Evon;  daughter-in-law:  Nette MacNeir of Early Branch;  and grandchildren:  Rachel, Dalton, Kaisee, Kameron, Kaden, Braydon and Ethan.  Mr. Sumler was predeceased by his parents;  his step-father:  Geddis Johnson;  son:  Kevin Karl MacNeir; and brother:  Everett Sumler.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Wednesday in the Spirit of Life Ministries Church in Varnville conducted by Rev. David Schaffer with burial in the Grimes Cemetery near Grays with Military Honors.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton.
