Oddis Gooding

Mr. Henry Oddis Gooding, 97, of Bamberg Highway in the Crocketville community, died Saturday night, July 20, 2024, in the Hampton Regional Medical Center.

Born June 20, 1927, in Hampton County, Oddis was a son of the late William Hard Gooding and Mabel Cook Gooding. He retired as the Office Manager from Hampton and Branchville Railroad at Lightsey Brothers in Hampton where he and his wife, Martha Ann, had lifelong careers together. Mr. Gooding was an avid fan of the Carolina Gamecocks and Atlanta Braves. He also enjoyed fishing in his spare time.

He was a faithful member of Harmony Presbyterian Church in Crocketville where he served until his death.  Mr. Gooding was a past teaching Elder at the church and took pride in maintaining the church yard. He was a member of the Crocketville and Presbyterian Cemetery Association alongside his wife and had served on its board. Mr. Gooding was a member of the combined Crocketville and Furman Masonic Lodge, was a member of the Crocketville Community Club, served on the Crocketville and Rivers Mill election, and was a member of the Hampton County Historical Society. His service to his community led him to affectionately be dubbed as the "Mayor of Crocketville" by his many friends.

Mr. Gooding is survived by 12 nieces and nephews.

The last surviving member of his immediate family, Mr. Gooding was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Mrs. Martha Ann Altman Gooding, his brothers: Ralph, Douglas, Jake, Rudolph, Harold, and Bill Gooding, and his sisters: Ernestine Browder, Verta Faircloth, and Dorothy "Dot" Braxton.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, July 24, 2024, in the Harmony Presbyterian Church located at 3897 Bamberg Hwy., Hampton, SC 29924 (the Crocketville community), burial will follow in the Crocketville Cemetery.

A visitation will begin at 10 AM prior to the service in the church sanctuary lasting until the hour of service.
