Myrtle Grace Carroll Nix, 90, of Varnville passed away March 18, 2020 at Summerville Community Hospice House in the presence of her loving daughter, Denise Nix Benton and her niece, Barbara O. Wardlaw. She was the wife of the late C.W. Nix.
Mrs. Nix was born August 11, 1929 in Albany, Georgia, a daughter of the late Frank and Vernie Carroll. She was co-owner of Nix Grocery until the time of her retirement. She was an active member of Hampton First Baptist Church and served in the Clothes Closet Ministry for many years. She also served as a faithful volunteer at Hampton Regional Medical Center before she became homebound. She enjoyed being with her family.
Mrs. Nix is survived by her daughter, Denise Nix Benton and husband, Don Benton of Brunson, SC; granddaughters: Kimberly Benton Sessions and husband John of Georgetown, SC and Donna Benton Freeman of Florence, SC; her sister: Thelma Carroll Denham of Albany, Georgia; great-grandchildren: Nicholas Vincent Freeman of Florence and Taylor Grace and Benton Sessions of Georgetown, SC; foster grandchildren: Tim Bennett and wife Michelle of Iron Station, NC, Ty Bennett and wife Lauren of Waxsaw, NC; and a foster granddaughter-in-law: Cindy Bennett of Easley, SC. There are seven foster great-granddaughters and seven nieces and nephews.
Special recognition should be given to her loving friends JoAnn Rentz and Vickie Lott who assisted with her care during her declining health.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Hampton First Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. R.P. Hodge with the eulogy given by Lil Drawdy. Burial will follow in the Johnson-St. Paul Cemetery in Hampton.
Visitation will be Friday, March 20, 2020 from 6 to 7 PM at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton.
