Myrtle Maxine Chassereau

Mrs. Myrtle Maxine Thompson Chassereau of East Elm Street in Hampton died Sunday afternoon at her residence after an extended illness.  She was 92.

Mrs. Chassereau was born May 23, 1926 in Blackville, a daughter of the late Gerthia Rufus Thompson and Etta Gertrude Waltz Thompson.  Early in her career she had worked for Thompson's Dime Store in Walterboro and later at Judy's Hallmark Store on Lee Avenue in Hampton.  She was a member of the Hampton First Baptist Church where she had been active with the WMU and was the widow of Rev. Walter Carl Chassereau, Sr.

Surviving are sons:  Carl Chassereau, Jr. and wife Annette of Brunson, Bart Chassereau and wife Sandra of Estill and Don Chassereau and wife Susan of Varnville;  daughters:  Laura Chassereau and Cindy Holyfield of Hampton;  brother:  Walter Thompson of Islandton;  grandchildren:  Daniel Chassereau, Denise Linton, Donovan Chassereau, David Williamson, and Krystle Badger and husband D.J.  There are five great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Chassereau was the great-granddaughter of Confederate Officer Colonel Robert Thompson of General Joseph Wheeler Calvary Corp. C.S.A.  Mrs. Chassereau was predeceased by her husband;  her daughter, Dot Williamson;  her brother, Rufus Thompson; and infant twins.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Thursday in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home with burial in the Hampton Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 PM at the Chapel located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton.
