Myrtis Mole Calvert

Myrtis Lee Mole Calvert, 90, passed away on October 4, 2022, at her home in Hampton, SC after an extended illness. Born on January 12, 1932, she was the daughter of James Calvin Mole and Estelle Pope Mole. She graduated from Hampton High School in 1950 and was crowned May Queen that year.

In 1953 she married Herbert Ray Calvert and together they owned and operated Calvert Dairy Farm for many years. Her talents were numerous, including quilting, crocheting, cooking, sewing, and playing the piano. She spent many hours gardening in her beautiful yard and never hesitated to give or receive flower cuttings, seedlings, and bulbs. She loved flowers so much. She made beautiful arrangements for every room in her home. They were almost as beautiful as her.

Myrtis was a devoted life-long member of Sandy Run Baptist Church, having served in various capacities including Church Pianist, Vacation Bible School Music leader, Sunday School Teacher, Sewing Circle, WMU, and Dear Hearts Senior group. She loved and trusted her God completely and was a humble servant all her life. Through good times and bad, her steadfast faith never wavered. She was an example of true humility, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and most of all, love.

She is survived by her children Ray Calvert, Jr., Craig Calvert (Mitzi), Wayne Calvert and Connie Calvert, brothers Marvin and James Mole, grandchildren, J. Elliott Calvert, MD, and Emily Calvert. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Erma Mole Hiers.

Phyllis Bowers was an indispensable help for several years. Her caring and friendship during extremely difficult times was often a lifeboat in the storm of dementia. Thank you, Phyllis. The family would also like to thank Retha McQuire.

Mama was the most caring mother anyone could have. The void she leaves will never be filled and will never fully heal, but we are comforted because we know without a doubt that she has now entered into the joy of the Lord, having heard the words "Well done, good and faithful servant." Because of her unwavering faith and service here on earth, she is fully restored and no longer a prisoner to the horrible disease of dementia. Praise the Lord!

Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Friday at Sandy Run Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Sandy Run Cemetery, Hampton SC, conducted by Rev. Paul Reid, directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday beginning at 10 A.M. prior to the services at Sandy Run Baptist Church.

Until she was no longer able, Myrtis played piano and sang this chorus every day. We will carry this song in our hearts as knowledge of God's great love and mercy for us through our Savior Jesus Christ, and in cherished memory of her.
