Mildred Elaine Woods Shipes, age 90 of Lexington, SC and a native and former resident of Hampton died Sunday, April 24, at Agape Hospice of Lexington. She was a daughter of the late Ida Mae Woods Crosby and Herman Woods. She was a member of 1st Baptist church of Hampton and had retired from Westinghouse Corp.

Mrs. Shipes is survived by daughters: Sonia Shipes Kelly of Vilas, NC and Janis Shipes Corley (Larkin) of Lexington. Her son Derrell A. Shipes (Sarah) of Lexington. Grandchildren: Angela Tester (Doug); Wendy Vines (Joe); John Jordan; Caroline Butcher (Nick); Andrew Shipes (Baylee) and Clay Shipes (Brittany), 8 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters: Agnes Peeples (Edgar) of Varnville; Ellen Wilson (Harry) of Charleston and Lydia Breland (Bobby) of Grays. A number of nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive her.

Mrs. Shipes was predeceased by her husband of 66 yrs. Melvin A. Shipes, an infant son Jonathan Wade Shipes, son-in-law Robert J. Kelly, 7 sisters, and 3 brothers.

Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Saturday in the Hampton First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Jimmy Farmer and Rev. Dr. Dennis Bolton, with private burial in the Johnson-St. Paul Cemetery, directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home.

She always had beautiful flowers and said she had enjoyed them before she passed away. Therefore in lieu of flowers the family requests donations to First Baptist Church of Hampton 305 Oak Street East, Hampton, SC 29924 or Shiloh United Methodist Church at 1000 Spring Hill Road Gilbert, SC 29054.

Visitation will be Saturday beginning at 1 P.M. at the Hampton First Baptist Church prior to the services.
