Mike Cook

Mike Cook, 70, passed away peacefully on October 7th, 2023 with his family by his side.

Mike was born to Lewis Hurbert Cook and Ruby Bunton Cook on December 5, 1952 in Varnville, South Carolina. He was a professional wrestler, railroad engineer, worked in finance, and served as a correctional officer with the South Carolina department of Corrections.

Mike was an avid fan of the Clemson Tigers and loved college football. He also enjoyed coaching football at North District School and Track & Field at Wade Hampton High School —teaching them not only fundamental skills but a true love for the game.

He cherished his time with his family (especially Libby and Johnny Priester), and his grandchildren always brought a smile to his face.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lydia (Stanley) Cook of Varnville, South Carolina; son, Michael Cook Jr. and his wife, Amanda, of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, Perry and Jack Cook of Denver, Colorado; brothers, Chris Cook of Fairfax, South Carolina and Philip Schmitten and wife Evelyn of Tomball, Texas; and sister, Mary Cook Anderton of Fairhope, Alabama. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Ruby Cook; brothers, Larry Cook, Lewis H Cook II. (Cookie), and William (Billy) Archibald; and sister, Janice Maynor.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 14th at 2:00 pm at Varnville First Baptist Church located at 165 E Palmetto Ave, Varnville, SC 29944, conducted by Rev. Mike Freeman and Rev. Brice Noll.  Visitation prior to services from 1:00 to 2:00 at Varnville First Baptist Church.
