Mary Jean Mcalhaney Bishop

ISLANDTON - Mrs. Mary Jean McAlhaney Bishop, 87, of Forks Road in Islandton, died Sunday, November 21, 2021 at the Lowcountry Community Hospice House in Summerville.

Mrs. Bishop was born October 17, 1934 in Hampton County to the late John A. McAlhaney and Vivian McMillan McAlhaney.  She had retired from Westinghouse Corporation in Hampton as an Inspector, but also enjoyed farming in the Islandton area.  She was a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church near Hampton and was the widow of the late Marshall Bishop.

Surviving are: sisters:  Louise M. Brown of Hampton, Shirley M. Torrance of Columbia; sisters-in-law:  Vivian McAlhaney of Brunson, Lynn Jarrell and her husband Edgar of Estill; and two special people:  Lillianna and Jaxon Nava.  Mrs. Bishop was predeceased by her husband, a sister:  Windel M. Altman, a brother:  John Ottis McAlhaney, and many nieces and nephews which she loved dearly.

Funeral Services will be conducted 11 AM Wednesday, November 24, 2021, in the Sandy Run Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. James Hensley, with burial in the Peniel Baptist Church Cemetery near Islandton, and directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton.

Visitation will be held at the church Wednesday morning beginning at 10 AM prior to the services.
