Mr. Mark Wayne McAlhaney, 64, resident of Rock Springs Road near Varnville, husband of JoAnn Smith McAlhaney, died Thursday evening, February 6, 2025, in the Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.
Born October 8, 1960, in Hampton County, Mark was the son of the late Bradley C. McAlhaney and Louise Jarrell McAlhaney. He was a graduate of Wade Hampton High School class of 1978 and worked many years in maintenance, most recently for Canfor Southern Pine in Estill. Mark enjoyed fishing, hunting, shrimping, playing pool, and woodworking. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Mark formerly attended Hopewell Baptist Church and was a Steward of the Forest member.
Surviving in addition to his wife, JoAnn, of the home, is his son, Jeffery Wayne McAlhaney (Bridget) of Cummings; his daughter, Amanda JoAnn Garcia (Joel) of Sycamore; his four grandchildren: Zailie, Finley, Aiden, and Mark; one sister, Deloris Johnstone of Hampton, and two brothers, Ray McAlhaney (Kathy) and Steve McAlhaney (Linda) all of Varnville. There are also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who survive.
Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Monday, February 10, 2025, in the Hopewell Baptist Church located at 6404 Hopewell Road, Hampton, SC 29924, conducted by Rev. Dr. Tommy Kelly. Burial will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery.
A visitation will be from 5 PM – 7 PM, Sunday evening, February 9, 2025, at the home, located at 2244 Rock Springs Road, Varnville, SC 29944.
Pallbearers will be JJ Moore, Kevin Johnstone, Robbie Brown, Kip Terry, Scott Brady, Randy Lee, and Kirby Dubberly.
The family requests that those who wish may send memorials to the Ronald McDonald House, RMHC Charleston, 81 Gadsden St., Charleston, SC 29401.
Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home is assisting the McAlhaney family during this time.
