Marion Solomons Mckenzie

Mrs. Marion Gray Solomons McKenzie, 86, of Shirley Road in Garnett, died Tuesday afternoon, February 5, in the Hampton Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. McKenzie was born December 8, 1932 in Jacksonville, Florida, a daughter of the late William Gifford Solomons, Sr. and Annie Louise Vowell Solomons.  She was the widow of John Edward McKenzie, Jr.

She retired in 1989 after 30 years of service with the Estill Public Schools and continued teaching for 8 years at Patrick Henry Academy until 1998.  Mrs. McKenzie was an active member of the Estill Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder.

Surviving are:  son:  John E. "Ned" McKenzie, III and wife Laura of Garnett;  daughter:  Teresa McKenzie Youmans of Hardeeville;  brother-in-law:  David H. McKenzie, Sr. and wife Cecelia of Garnett;  5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday in the Estill Presbyterian Church in Estill conducted by Rev. Dr. Jamie Norris and Rev. Linda Kelly with burial in the Lawtonville Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 PM at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton.
