Marie Strickland

Mrs. Marie Blackburn Strickland, 82, of McKenzie Trail in Furman, died Thursday, August 19, 2021 in the Hampton Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Strickland was born August 16, 1939 in Sumter, a daughter of the late James William Blackburn and Brunice Inez Justice Blackburn.  She had retired from Scotsman as the Human Resources Administrator.  Mrs. Strickland was a member of Furman United Methodist Church and had served as Mayor of Furman.  She enjoyed line dancing, was a member of the unofficial Julienne's Coffee Club Posse and was a loyal caregiver for her family and any friends in need.

Surviving are her sons, Larry E. Meyers and wife Kim of Fort Worth, Texas and Phil N. Meyers and wife Amy of York, Pennsylvania; daughters, Vicki L. Jaskowiak and husband Gary of Varnville, Cindy Fam and husband George of Awendaw, SC and Alesia Burns and husband Gene of Summerville, SC; 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Tuesday in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Dewey Shaffer with burial in the Stafford Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 PM at the Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton.
