BRUNSON :      Mrs. Marian Estelle Rivers Platts, of Augusta Highway near Brunson, died Thursday night at her residence.

Mrs. Platts was born April 16, 1931 in Hampton, a daughter of the late Moss Edward Rivers and Alma Carter Rivers.  She was a graduate of Winthrop University, and had retired after 38 years of service teaching school.  Mrs. Platts was a Phi Beta Kappa member, and was active in many local civic organizations including the Library Board, and the Hampton County Museum and Historical Society.  She was a member of the Brunson United Methodist Church, and was active in many church activities.  She dearly loved her family and stayed in touch with all of her relatives.  Mrs. Platts was the widow of Charles Edward Platts Sr.

Surviving are:  sons: Lew Platts and wife Jennifer of Brunson, and Chuck Platts and wife Terri of Hampton; Brother: Gene "Chuck" Rivers and wife Bobbi of Thomasville, NC and a sister-in-law:  Judy Rivers of Estill.  There are three grandchildren:  Dirk Platts and wife Frederike, Jake Platts and wife Lindsey, and Julie Duggan and husband Marty;  and three great-grandchildren:  Jonathan, Charlotte, and Briggs.

Mrs. Platts was predeceased by her parents and husband, two brothers: Earl and Edward Rivers, and one sister:  Mary Elizabeth Hiers.

Graveside services will be 3 PM Sunday in the Crocketville Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Carol Holladay, and directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton.  Visitation will be immediately following the service at the cemetery.
