Margaret "Marnie" Davidson Baker

Margaret Aline Davidson Baker, 99, widow of William Wilkins Baker, Jr., her beloved husband of 70 years, died Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at River Oaks Assisted Living in Port Royal, SC surrounded by her family.  She was born in Cheraw, SC, on February 11, 1919, to the late James Edward and Cynthia Aline Laney Davidson.  She was a 1940 magna cum laude graduate of Coker College majoring in music, specializing in piano performance.  She was elected May Queen and President of the Christian Association.

Mrs. Baker taught piano lessons at home and with Davis School of Music.  She was a member of the Estill Music Club, American Legion Auxiliary and the Garden Club.  She was also the organist at Lawtonville Baptist Church for many years.  She leaves behind a legacy of hospitality, music, Christianity and family.

Mrs. Margaret "Marnie" Davidson Baker is survived by one son: William "Bill" Baker, III (Sarah) Estill, SC, two daughters: Jennie B. Smith (Dick) Bluffton, SC, and Mary A. Baker (Peggy Walton) Hilton Head, SC.  There are seven grandchildren:  Brian John Smith (Amy), Margaret "Marnie" McMurray (Jay), Baker J. Odom (Brandy), Gwynn Davidson Baker Yocco (Stan), Megan L. Baker Congleton (Sean), Jennie W. Reardon (Wade), Creighton Wilkins Odom (Catherine) and 14 great grandchildren.  In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by one brother, Rev. Edward Laney Davidson (Ruth).  She is also survived by many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be Friday, January 11th, at 3 PM at Lawtonville Cemetery in Estill.  Visitation will begin at 1 PM at the Estill Presbyterian Church on 343 Clarke Street in Estill.

The family wants to send a heartfelt gratitude to her longtime caregivers from Tidewater Hospice of Bluffton and the staff of River Oaks Assisted Living Facility in Port Royal, SC.
