Maree Peeples Goethe

Faye Maree Peeples Goethe, of Lento Road, Varnville, SC died at Candler Hospital in Savannah Georgia on October 3, 2025 at the age of 78 after an extended illness.

Maree was born on May 20, 1947 near Grays, SC, the youngest child of Henry C. Peeples and Lottie Thomas Peeples. After graduating as valedictorian of her class from Grays High School in 1965, Maree began her career working for Tillotson Brothers in Ridgeland and in the office of Dr. Bennett in Hampton as a bookkeeper and secretary. She then dedicated several years to serving with Hampton County EMS as an EMT. For the past 30 years, Maree owned and operated Low Country Cleaning Service alongside her husband, Billy Brown.

Maree enjoyed cooking, reading, playing piano, and spending time in the NC mountains at their home near Burnsville, NC.   Maree will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family, her kindness to friends and neighbors, and her strong work ethic, which touched the lives of all who knew her.

Maree, is survived by her husband, William H. "Billy" Brown, Jr.; her children, Brian J. Goethe and wife Lauren, Michael E. Brown, and Kevin A. Brown and wife Kelly, eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, her sister, Magdalene Goethe, a niece who was like a daughter Patricia Crosby, and numerous other nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Henry Ouzie Peeples, Robert Peeples, Harold Thomas, John F. Peeples, William Peeples and her sister, Honoree Nelson.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, October 8, 2025 in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Mt. Carmel Church Cemetery on Browning Gate Road, Varnville, SC.

Visitation will be from 6 PM - 8 PM Tuesday evening, October 7, 2025 at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry St. W., Hampton, SC 29924.

The family suggests that those who wish may send memorials to Gideons International or St. Jude' Children Hospital.
