Marcia Campbell Wood passed away Thursday afternoon April 18, 2024 at her home in Varnville, South Carolina.
Marcia was born December 16, 1938, on her grandfather Douglas' farm in the small community of Oakwood, in Aiken County. She was the daughter of M. K. "Happy" Campbell and Ruth Douglas Campbell.
Mrs. Wood retired from BB&T Bank after more than forty years of service. She was active in the community, served sixteen years on the Hampton County Council, served on the Community Committee for Estill Federal Prison Facility, and served many years on the Coastal Community Foundation Beaufort Fund Board. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Varnville.
She is survived by her sister, Hazel Roberta Smith ( J.L.), by several nieces and nephews, and by a special friend and sister-in-law, Catherine Whittington. She was predeceased by her first husband Bobby Whittington, by her second husband Johnny Wood, by her parents, by a sister Ethel Stanley Davis, and by a brother Charles Campbell.
The family will receive visitors Saturday afternoon, April 20, 2024 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at the Wood Residence, 91 Academy Street, Varnville, South Carolina. Graveside funeral services will be held Monday, April 22, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Sand Hill Cemetery. Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, 300 Mulberry Street in Hampton is in charge of arrangements.
The family extends their deepest appreciation to the caregivers who cared for Marcia for more than two years.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sand Hill Cemetery Fund, Post Office Box 581, Hampton, South Carolina 29924.
