Lula Caroline Boone

Mrs. Lula Caroline Zahler Boone, 70, resident of Pepper Street in Varnville, widow of the late Daniel Boone, Jr., passed away Thursday morning, January 8, 2026, at her residence after an extended illness.

Born January 26, 1955, in Walterboro, Mrs. Boone was the daughter of the late Tatnell Oswald Zahler, Jr. and the late Reba Mae Gooding Zahler.  She attended the public schools of Hampton County and will be remembered by her family for her love of gardening; especially growing beautiful flowers. Mrs. Boone will also be remembered for the deep love that she shared for her family. . . notably her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are her sons: Rusty Zahler (Laura) of West Columbia, Jay Boone of Brunson, and Dan Boone (Melissa) of Varnville; her daughter, Rebecca Nix (Phillip) of Varnville; her sisters: Joyce Ann Frazier (Edward) of Walterboro, Fay Rosier (Jackie) of Nixville, Gay Jarrell of Nixville, and Janice Adams of Cummings; two brothers, Tat Zahler (June) and Horace Zahler both of Varnville; six grandchildren: Russ Zahler, McKayla Zahler, Nicole Nix, Joey Nix (Ashley), Hanna Nix, and Natalie Boone, and six adored great-grandchildren: Jayden, Raylenn, Kolsen, Aiden, Kenzlee, and Alaiyah. There are also many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, Daniel Boone, Jr., Mrs. Boone was predeceased by a sister, Mary Ellen Cook (Charles), and two brothers-in-law: John Jarrell and James Adams.

Funeral Services will be 2 PM Sunday, January 11, 2026, in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Tim Minchey. Burial will follow in the Zahler Cemetery near Yemassee.

Visitation will be from 6 PM – 8 PM Saturday evening, January 10, 2026, at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, Hampton Chapel, located at 300 Mulberry St. W., Hampton, SC 29924.

Family members will be gathering at the family home, located at 1582 Hickory Hill Road, Varnville, SC 29944.

Pallbearers will be Robert Cook, Jack Rosier, Abner Rosier, Russ Zahler, Chuck Parker, and Mateo Cruz.

The family requests that those who wish can send memorials to the Zahler Cemetery.
