Lucille Johnson Kinard

Mrs. Lucille Johnson Kinard of Hampton, South Carolina celebrated her sixty-first wedding anniversary on September 7, by joining her husband, William James "Will" Kinard, in Heaven.

Lucille was born to the late James Edward "J.D." Johnson and Deborah Lucille Dobson "Debbie" Johnson in Hampton on June 7, 1933. After graduating at the top of her class at Hampton High School, she attended Furman University and married a handsome Airman from Smoaks. Lucille was a Teacher's Assistant at Varnville Elementary School before she and Will became small business owners of R & K Welding (now Diversified Metal). Lucille was a devoted patriot: a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and host of the Black Creek polling station for many years at her family farm. She was a lifelong member of Luray Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she served as an Elder and her joy in the Gospel flowed into her notes in all the margins of her well-worn Bible. She cherished her dear friends from her time in leadership of Christian Women's Fellowship.

Lucille always loved playing hymns on her piano, fixing Sunday dinner, saying exactly what she thought, tending her flowers, and beating everybody at Scrabble.  Most of all she thrilled in loving one another as our Savior first loved us.

Lucille is survived by her children: David (Mary Ellen Stanley) Kinard of Hampton, Rusty (Angie Weichbrodt) Kinard of Brunson, Deborah (Bert) Burch of Varnville, and Clay (Tammy) Kinard of Varnville; Siblings: Don Belger of Lugoff, Roger Belger of Tyler, Texas, Earl Kinard of Barnwell, and Lovenia Kinard of Ehrhardt; Grandchildren: Jor-rel (Kara) Kinard, Mary Elizabeth Johns, Matthew (Heather) Kinard, Kelsey (Thomas) Richardson, and Michael Burch; and special friends Sam and Inge Parish.

Lucille is delighted to join in Heaven her brother, Bill Johnson.

Memorial services will be 11 A.M. Saturday, September 23rd, at the Luray Christian Church, conducted by Rev. Noel Cooper and directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton.   Visitation will be immediately following the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Luray Christian Church, or the American Cancer Society.
