Lenny Smith

Mr. Leonard G.  Smith, 58, known to most of his friends as Lenny of 17927 Grays Highway, Varnville, died Friday night, February 5, 2021 in Cumming, Georgia after being struck by a car.

Lenny was born September 21, 1962 in the Hampton Regional Medical Center, a son of Jimmie R. Smith, Sr. and Mary Alice Bennett Smith of Varnville.  Lenny graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 1980 and from the University of South Carolina in 1985 with a BA Degree in Hospitality Management.  Lenny worked several years for the Marriott chain and the Delano in South Beach, Miami.  He later worked as an insurance agent in Atlanta for several years.

Surviving is his special friend, Christine Ford and her sons Christian and Caymen, who had a special place in Lenny's heart; his parents Jimmie and Mary Alice Smith of Varnville; his brother Jimmie Smith, II and wife Sherry of Varnville and their children, Cole Smith and Jessica Smith Gifford and husband Branham Gifford.

Lenny loved to travel with Christine.  He made several trips to Las Vegas, Costo Rica and other Caribbean destinations.  He loved to spend time with family and friends.  He was a former Cub Scout and later became a Scout Leader for Christian.  He loved to watch Christian and Caymen play soccer and roller hockey.  He loved to spend time at the beach and in the boat with his brother Jim, family and friends.

Graveside services will be 3 PM Tuesday, February 9, 2021 in the Grimes Cemetery near Grays conducted by Rev. John Culp and Rev. Heyward Evans and directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton.

Visitation will be held immediately following the service at the cemetery.
