Mrs. Lena Stewart Ulmer Cannington passed away peacefully Saturday morning, February 10, 2024 at the Pruitt Healthcare Center in Estill.  She was 85.

Lena was born in Aiken County February 3, 1939 a daughter of the late Tommy Stewart and Katherine Ann Peeples Stewart.  She was a well-known fixture in the Cummings community for many years as she worked alongside her first husband at "Bubba's Tires".  She was a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church, and in her younger years, could often be found fishing and shrimping the beautiful waters of the South Carolina Lowcountry.

She is survived by her daughter Frieda Ulmer Carillo, and by her sisters Minnie Edwins and Mary Valentine.  She also leaves behind her special friend Katrina Fultz.  Lena was preceded in death by her first husband James "Bubba" Ulmer, by her second husband Frank W. Cannington, by two sons, Wesley and David Ulmer, and by two sisters, Barbara Ann Carver and Betty Long.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon, February 14, 2024 at 2:00 in the chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton, with burial following in the Sand Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends during a time of visitation beginning at 12:30 at the funeral home, located at 300 Mulberry Street in Hampton.
