Lawrence "Larry" Cook

Mr. Lawrence "Larry" Cook of Varnville, died early Monday morning in the John Edward Harter Nursing Center in Fairfax.

Mr. Cook was born April 8, 1950 in Varnville, a son of the late Lewis H. Cook and Ruby Bunton Cook.  He was a member of the Varnville First Baptist Church and loved animals.  His special love was trains, especially the CSX trains that came through Varnville.  He knew all of their schedules and even many of the train Engineers and workers who also looked after Larry and would give an extra "whistle" for him.  He was known in the community as the "Railroad Man".

Surviving are:  brothers:  Mike Cook and wife Lydia of Varnville, Chris Cook of Fairfax and Philip Schmitten and wife Evelyn of Groveton, Texas; and a sister:  Mary Renfro of Fairhope, Alabama.  He was predeceased by:  a sister:  Janice Maynard; and  brothers:  Cookie Cook and Billy Archibald.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Saturday, July 7th, in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton, conducted by Rev. Dr. Tommy Kelly.
