Laverne Jarrell Bishop

Mrs. Laverne Jarrell Bishop, 89, resident of Ginn Altman Avenue in Hampton, widow of the late David B. Bishop, passed away Monday evening, August 4, 2025, at Friends of Caroline Hospice in Ridgeland.

Born August 26, 1935, in Hampton County, Mrs. Bishop was the daughter of the late Ervin Jarrell and Mary Eva Mock Jarrell. She was a 1953 graduate of Varnville High School and worked many years as a seamstress. Most importantly, Mrs. Bishop was a homemaker who will be remembered as a wonderful cook, Gideon's wife, and most importantly, mother. She deeply loved her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Bishop was the oldest living member of West End Baptist Church in Hampton where she was active in many church activities over the years.

Surviving are two sons, Larry Bishop and his wife Terry of Hampton and Karl Bishop and his wife Jessica of Varnville; two brothers, Casey Jarrell and Oliver Jarrell; two sisters, Evelyn Griner and Linda Crapse; 7 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bishop was predeceased by her husband, David Bishop; one son, Donald Wayne (Yogi) Bishop; 3 sisters, and 1 brother.

Funeral Services will be 3:30 PM Thursday, August 7, 2025, in the West End Baptist Church in Hampton. Burial will follow in the Hampton Cemetery.

A visitation will begin at 2 PM and last until the hour of the service in the church sanctuary.
