Mr. Larry L. Cooke, 76, resident of Walterboro Highway near Varnville, SC, husband of Ann Swain Cooke, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 15, 2025, at his residence.
Born August 24, 1948, in Miley, SC, Mr. Cooke was the son of the late Clarence C. Cooke and Minnie Moody Cooke. He was a graduate of Wade Hampton High School and retired from Palmetto Electric Cooperative in 2010 after 40 years of dedicated service. Mr. Cooke thoroughly enjoyed camping with his wife and family and was a master craftsman who enjoyed building furniture for family and friends. He also loved all pets; never wanting an animal to be mistreated. A devoted family man, Mr. Cooke loved his relatives and friends dearly having them together for holidays and gatherings, which he enjoyed. He will be remembered as always being the first to lend a helping hand to a loved one during a time of need.
Mr. Cooke was a faithful member of Sandy Run Baptist Church for 50 years; joining in 1970. At the church, he served as a deacon, choir member, and sang in the gospel group "The Messengers".
Surviving in addition to his beloved wife of 54 years, Margaret Ann Swain Cooke, of the home, are two brothers: Carlisle Cooke (Gloria) of Orangeburg, SC and Laymon Cooke (Fran) of Barnwell, SC; a sister, Faye C. Wooten (Allen) of Hardeeville, SC; two sisters-in-law, Judy Cooke of Columbia, SC and Linda S. Herndon of Varnville, SC, and a brother-in-law, Bruce D. "Danny" Swain of Varnville, SC. There are also numerous nieces and nephews which he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents and an infant son, Mr. Cooke is predeceased by his brothers, Clarence B. Cooke, Norris Cooke, and Rhett Cooke; his sisters, Peggy C. Gooding, Bonnie C. Gray, and Sandra C. DeHay; his brothers-in-law, Randolph "Doc" Gooding, Gene Gray, Ray DeHay, and Danny Herndon; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bruce E. Swain and Marguerite T. Swain, and a nephew, Brian Cooke.
Funeral Services will be 11:30 AM Friday, July 18, 2025, in the Sandy Run Baptist Church located at 2100 Sandy Run Road, Hampton, SC 29924 conducted by Rev. Aron Winn. Burial will follow in the Sandy Run Cemetery.
A visitation will begin at 10 AM Friday and last until the hour of the service in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sandy Run Baptist Church, 2100 Sandy Run Road, Hampton, SC 29924 or the Sandy Run Cemetery, P.O. Box 252, Hampton, SC 29924.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Heather Delong, Mark Thompson, and the rest of the wonderful staff of Amedisys Hospice for their exceptional care of Mr. Cooke during his final days.
