Julia Alice Simmons Tuten

Mrs. Julia Alice Simmons Tuten, 96, of Cat Branch Road near Grays died Saturday evening at her residence.

Mrs. Tuten was born December 8, 1921 in Brunson, a daughter of the late James Emrett "Jim" Simmons and Julia Alice Altman Simmons.  She had retired as a seamstress with Best Manufacturing Company after 36 years.  She enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting and watching sports games that her children and grandchildren were involved in.  Mrs. Tuten was a member of the Pine Level Baptist Church and had worked with the church nursery.

Surviving are:  Sons:  Wayne Tuten and Lynwood Tuten and wife Joye of Grays;  Daughter  Marlene Mitchell and husband Raymond of Grays:  Grandchildren:  Cindy T. Trombly and husband Scott, Paul Tuten and wife Andrea, Bonnie, Sarah Lyn and Clint Tuten and wife Kristina, Bryson Mitchell, Allison Schaffer and husband Jon and Kayla Mitchell;  Great-grandchildren:  Carson Getridge and husband Tracy, Brett and Lance Trombly, Isaac, Anna Kate, Amelia, Adleigh, Summer and Ivy Tuten, Grace and Jonathan Schaffer and a number of nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Tuten was predeceased by:  her Husband, Paul Lathan "P.L." Tuten; her Foster Mother:  Viola Cope, who took care of her after the death of her mother;  Brothers:  Fornam and Forace Simmons;  Sisters:  Lillie Veta Simmons and Margie Ellis: and a Daughter-in-law:  Juanita W. Tuten.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Wednesday in the Pine Level Baptist Church with Rev. Thomas Terry and Elder Paul Tuten conducting the service with burial in the Winn Cemetery, directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home.

Visitation will begin Tuesday at 3 PM at the residence located at 3506 Cat Branch Road near Early Branch.
