Joanne Mccall

JoAnne Douglas Tyler McCall, 88 years old, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023.

JoAnne was born on March 19, 1935 to Harold Odell Douglas and Rosa Lee Mason in Scotia, SC. JoAnne graduated from Estill High School in 1953, and continued her studies at Winthrop College in Rock Hill, SC.

After business school she moved to Sanford, FL. In 1958 JoAnne met her husband Edward S. McCall, Jr. (pre-deceased). JoAnne and Ed began their family and had 5 children, 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
JoAnne wore many hats throughout her life~wife, mother, and friend. She worked by her husbands side keeping the books for the family business in Orlando, FL. She also worked at Seminole High School for 27 years where she was the secretary for the principal and guidance dept, as well as a Career Counselor for the students. Upon retirement she returned to the Low Country of South Carolina where she lived happily surrounded by friends and family.

JoAnne enjoyed the beach and being outside. She loved people and had many friends over her lifespan. She would reminisce about the old days. Her stories of laughing and being with others were endless. She always wanted the best for everyone and never wanted her friends or family to suffer or be in pain. Above all, Family was her love and main focus throughout her life.

While JoAnne grieved the loss of her husband of almost 50 years, her family takes comfort in knowing that Jo and Ed are together again. They are survived by their children Edward Steinmeyer McCall III (Michelle-predeceased), Elisabeth Stephanie McCall, Parks Mason McCall (Billie Meiser), Stephen James McCall (Kim) and Alison McCall Gregory (Kevin). JoAnne has 4 grandchildren Meagan Stamper (Anthony), Andrew McCall (Erica), Kelsey Maxwell (Alex) and Carson Gregory. She also has 7 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 2PM in the Lebanon United Methodist Church in Scotia, SC with burial to follow in the church cemetery, directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home of Hampton, SC.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Lebanon Cemetery Association c/o Mary Beth Poston, 114 Harriett St, Hampton, SC 29924.
