Born July 06, 1943, in Ehrhardt, South Carolina, Mrs. Long was the daughter of the late Lucas Henry Sauls and Mary Lou Reavis Sauls.  She worked many years as a Rural Mail Carrier in Hampton County and was recognized throughout the community as the "Mail Lady". Mrs. Long's greatest pleasures were shopping, cooking for her family and friends, taking care of her beautiful rose garden, and caring for her amaryllis bed. She will also be remembered as "Elvis's biggest fan" having had the pleasure of visiting Graceland in 2014.

Mrs. Long was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Hampton, where she served on the bereavement committee and was involved in other church activities.

Surviving are her sister, Mary Nell Godwin of Beaufort, 14 nieces and nephews, 17 great-nieces and nephews, 4 great-great nieces and nephews, and a dear friend, Marvin Murdaugh of Hampton.

Mrs. Long was predeceased by her husband, Steve Barton Long; two brothers, James Henry Sauls and Dan Sauls, and one nephew, Eddie Long.

Mrs. Joann and Mr. Steve never had their own children, however, they always referred to beloved nieces and nephews, Sandy, Larry, Susan, and Eddie as "the children".

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, October 24, 2024, in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Emerson Wiles. Burial will follow in the Hampton Cemetery. *Funeral services have been re-scheduled to be held in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home rather than the First Baptist Church of Hampton*
