Mrs. Jo Ann Robertson Padgett of Main Street in Varnville died Wednesday evening in the Beaufort Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. She was 80.
Mrs. Padgett was born August 6, 1938 in Cottageville, a daughter of the late Josiah and Julia Ann Tuten Robertson. She was a homemaker and dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She won "Best Granny" award from her grandchildren and loved cooking and spending time with her family. She loved to fish and work with flowers, but babysitting was her passion. Her grandchildren were the "apple of her eye". She was known as "granny" by a lot of adopted children. She was a member of the Nixville Church of God of Prophecy and was the widow of William Horace Hickman, Richard Henry Long and Barney Langford Padgett.
Surviving are children: Delores Brunson of Varnville, Nancy Gill and husband Ted of Nixville, Marvin Long and wife Missy of Nixville, Patty Jackson and husband Lee of Nixville, Judy Tindall and husband Michael of Nixville and Sue Sharp and husband Lowell of Ravenel; grandchildren: Michael Gill, Justin Malphrus and wife Charity, Adam Malphrus, Brian Chassereau and wife Brittany, Travis Long, Joey Gill, Casey Galloway and husband Steven, Rachael Grimm and husband Dyllon, Stephanie Jarrell and husband Randy, Blake Tindall and wife Charlotte, Joshua Chassereau, and Cole Jackson (baby Cole); and son-in-law: Tom Watson of Varnville. There are 14 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Padgett is predeceased by her husbands and: son: William Horace Hickman, Jr.: daughter: Cathy Elaine Long Watson; son: Johnnie Lee Padgett; and brothers: Rochie Robertson and Josiah Silas Robertson, Jr.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Saturday in the Nixville Church of God of Prophecy conducted by Rev. Michael Frederickson with burial in the Sandy Run Cemetery directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at the residence located at 690 Main Street in Varnville after 6 PM Friday evening.
