Mr. James Gordon "Jim" Mains, 86, of Connelly Street in Yemassee, died Monday, June 1, 2020 in the Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta after an extended illness.

Mr. Mains was born October 25, 1933 in Augusta, Kentucky, a son of the late Frank Leslie Mains and Fannie Queen Brothers Mains.  He served in the Marines for 20 years, retiring as a 1st Sergeant.  He served two tours in Vietnam, had received three Bronze Stars and one Silver Star with a Combat V for Valor.  After his military retirement, he was Vice President and C E O of Guardian Food Services and worked with other companies in his spare time.  He was a member of Yemassee Baptist Church and where he had served as a Deacon as well as worked with many other church activities.

Surviving is his wife:  Joyce Marlene Mixson Mains of Yemassee; son:  James Allen Mains of Yemassee; daughter:  Sharon Renee Mains of Yemassee; grandchildren:  Stephen Allen Baty of Yuma, Arizona, Katlyn Renee Baty and Deanna Marlene Baty, both of Yemassee, Shelby Lynn Mains of Sylvania, Georgia and Joyce Emily Mains of Statesboro, Georgia; two great-grandchildren:  Luke Daniel Baty and Elizabeth Jan Mains and a number of nieces and nephews.  Mr. Mains was predeceased by eleven brothers and sisters.

Graveside services will be 2 PM Thursday at Sand Hill Cemetery conducted by Rev. Heyward Evans.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 PM at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton.
