Jerry Allen Jarrell

Jerry Allen Jarrell's long battle with cancer ended on September 8, 2024, when he went to his heavenly home to be with the Lord.

Jerry was born in Ridgeland, SC, on October 24, 1948, to the late Bennie and Dora Nix Jarrell. He and his wife, Frances Terry Jarrell, were married October 9, 1971

Jerry grew up in the community of Nixville where he first learned to love the land and the ethics of hard work. He also enjoyed coon hunting with family and friends.  Jerry graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 1966 and went on to graduate from United Electronics Institute in Charleston, SC. He then completed a tour of duty in the U.S. Army and was a Viet Nam veteran. Jerry retired from Centurylink Telephone Company after 41 years as a Central Office Technician and spent the remainder of his life farming. His greatest farming joy was seeing crops grow. Even after he was no longer able to go to the shop with the fellows, he enjoyed having his wife take him riding in the afternoons to check the progress of the crops. Jerry also enjoyed spending time with his grandsons teaching them about farming and country life.

Jerry became a member of Nixville Baptist Church at a young age where he served in many capacities.  He was ordained as a deacon in 1973 and continued to serve as long as his health allowed.  He was so excited to see the completion of the church's Family Life Center during which time he served as Chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee throughout the planning and construction of that facility.

He and his wife were the parents of two sons and a daughter:  Terry (Becky), Estill; Kevin (Julie), Brunson; and Carrie Capuano, Sarasota, Fl. He was "Papa" to his six grandchildren: Kyle, A.J., Silas, Justus, Meghan and Summer and one great-granddaughter. Jerry is also survived by two brothers: Dave, Estill; Edgar (Lynn) and Janet Jarrell, sister-in-law.  He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was predeceased by his two sisters and their husbands: Maybelle Smith (Lewis), Rachel Hatcher (Austin).  He was also predeceased by his brothers Charles (Evelyn) and B.L., and sister-in-law,  Bobbie Jarrell.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Nixville Baptist Church, 3915 Two Sisters Ferry Road, Estill, SC  29918.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 at Nixville Baptist Church and an hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Nixville Baptist Church.  The family extends their appreciation to Crescent Hospice for the care Jerry received and to the doctors, nurses, and other staff at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, SC.

Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home is assisting the Jarrell family during this time.
