Jerry Greene

Jerry Michael Greene, 76, of Estill, SC won his battle against pancreatic cancer at his home on August 10, 2021.

The son of J.M. and Irene Hipps Greene, Jerry was born in Gaffney, SC on December 6, 1944.  Jerry was a man of few words, but when he spoke, it was profound.  His grandchildren were the joy of his life, whatever they wanted - shopping, movies, eating out, he made it happen.  He had a gift of knowledge for how things worked and the ability to fix anything.

Jerry graduated from Estill High School in 1963, where he was remembered as one of the fastest and best running backs.  After attending Wofford College, he served in the US Army in Korea and then returned to Estill to work at his father's Coca Cola plant.  After retiring from T.O. Plastics in Hampton, Jerry managed Longfield Plantation; running it as if it were his own.  He had served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and Director of Sunday School for over 25 years at Lawtonville Baptist Church, where he was a member.

Jerry Greene is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Judy Altman Greene; son Michael Greene and Blythe Taylor; daughter Anna Greene Toney and husband Brian Toney, all of Estill; his beloved grandchildren: Laura Gray and Harling; Madison and Wyatt and their mother, Jennifer Lazenby; Sawyer, Peyton and Elizabeth.  He was predeceased by his father, mother and a sister, Sammie Kay Greene Beam.

Visitation will be 4 to 6 PM Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Peeples-Rhoden Estill Chapel located at 330 Clarke Avenue, Estill.

A celebration of his life will be 11 AM Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Lawtonville Baptist Church with burial at Lawtonville Cemetery.  Officiating will be his son-in-law, Rev. Brian Toney and Rev. Asbury Lawton and directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home.
