Mrs. Jean Walsh Padgett, known to many as MeMe, a resident of Highland Street in Varnville, passed away peacefully Friday, May 22, 2026, at home at the age of 83. Her caring heart and welcoming smile will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to have known her.
Born February 20, 1943, in Estill, South Carolina, Mrs. Padgett was the daughter of the late Raymond C. Walsh and the late Verna DeLoach Walsh. A 1961 graduate of Wade Hampton High School, she was a devoted homemaker who deeply loved her family. Mrs. Padgett was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be remembered for having a special gift in the kitchen, where she poured her love into every recipe.
Mrs. Padgett was a member of the Varnville First Baptist Church where she was active with many church committees and activities. Notably, she was a beloved member of the Sunshine Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Perry Frank Padgett, Sr., of the home, her two children, Lynn Padgett O'Quinn of Greenville and Frankie Padgett (Anita) of Allendale; her six grandaughters: Amanda Padgett, Emily O'Quinn, Abby Burroughs (Steven), Jamie Segars (Amanda), Lindsay O'Quinn, and Heather Dorroh (Jake); her great-grandson, Wales Burroughs (8 days old), as well as two step great-grandsons, Clayton and Chandler Richards. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Paisley, who was a constant companion holding a special place in her heart.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Padgett is predeceased by her brothers, Charles and Arnold Walsh.
Funeral Services will be 3 PM Tuesday, May 26, 2026, in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Terry Wilder. Burial will follow in the Varnville Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 1 PM Tuesday and last until the hour of the service at the funeral home located at 300 Mulberry St. W., Hampton, SC 29924.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Douglas, Jake Dorroh, Wilson Holland, Kenneth Padgett, Pete Stuckey, Steven Burroughs, and Hunter Varner.
Honorary pallbearers will be the women of the Varnville First Baptist Sunshine Class.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish send memorials to the Varnville First Baptist Sunshine Sunday School Class (Sunshine Class), P.O. Box 306, Varnville, SC 29944.
The family would also like to send a special thank you to Ashley, Tracy, and Gina with Gentiva Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion for Mrs. Padgett.
