Jason Robert McGuire, age 56 of Brunson, SC, passed away on September 13, 2026, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Lakewood, NJ and moved to Hampton County, SC at the young age of 16 with his father.
Jason lived his life in the fast lane, a passion most evident in his deep love for working on cars. Whether he was fine-tuning an engine, swapping out parts, or changing oil, the garage was his sanctuary. His happiest moments, however, were spent under the hood of a car alongside his son, Preston. Teaching Preston the tricks of the trade and passing down his mechanical wisdom was a bond that meant the world to him. The same bond that Jason shared with his father, Bob McGuire.
Beyond his love for cars, Jason was known as the life of every gathering. A natural comedian of sorts, he passed a sharp wit and an endless supply of hilarious one-liners that could diffuse any tension and bring a smile to anyone’s face. He had a unique gift for making people laugh, and his humor will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Jason’s outgoing nature and generous spirit meant he never met a stranger. He leaves behind an incredible network of loyal friends, along with his beloved son Robert McGuire “Preston” (Brunson, SC), his long-time partner, Lisa Goethe (Brunson, SC), his mother Donna McGuire (Barnegat, NC), his step-mother Alayne McGuire (Brunson, SC), his siblings Robert J. McGuire, Jr. (Barnegat, NJ), Meribeth Oberhotlzer (Dean) (Waretown, NJ), Lisa Reeves (Varnville, SC) and Lauren Mulrooney (Shawn) (Barnegat, NJ).
He also leaves behind his favorite niece, Morgan Reeves (Varnville, SC), his nephews Ryan Shinaberry (Nahunta, GA), Keith Mulrooney (Barnegat, NJ) and Corey Mulrooney (Barnegat, NJ) along with his grandson Dion Crews (Gillisonville, SC). Jason was predeceased by his son Jason Dion McGuire, his father Robert J. McGuire, Sr., and his cherished bonus daughter, Lauren Hill.
To honor his memory, a private celebration of life will be held for family and close friends at a later date. Details regarding the time and location will be shared once finalized.
The family suggests that those who wish send memorials to the American Cancer Society.
Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home is assisting the McGuire family during this time.
