Mr. James Arnold "Punkin" Simmons, Sr., 76, of Cat Branch Road near Early Branch, died early Wednesday morning at his residence.
Mr. Simmons was born December 12, 1942, a son of the late Fornam and Nora Lee Tindal Simmons. He had retired after 44 years at Westinghouse Corporation in Hampton as head welder in the Maintenance Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and riding his Kubota.
Surviving are his wife: Peggy A. Rhoden Simmons of Early Branch; son: James Arnold "Bubba" Simmons, Jr. and wife Neighley of Early Branch; daughters: Paula Cook and husband Ricky of Early Branch, and Tabitha Parker and husband Bill of Hampton; brother: Ervin Simmons and wife Eunice of Early Branch; sister: Linda Hankins and husband Benny of Early Branch; grandchildren: Tiffany Hiers, Brandon Marchyshyn, James Austin Simmons, Makenzie Simmons, Justin Parker and wife Sydney, and Brianna Parker. There are two sisters-in-law: Judy and Corrine Simmons. Mr. Simmons was predeceased by three brothers: Eugene, William and Bernard.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Friday in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Dr. Tommy Kelly with burial in the Grimes Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5 to 8 PM at the Chapel located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton.
The family suggests that those who wish may send memorials to his funeral fund.
