Mr. Jacky "The Singing Stinger" Vinson Horne, 87, former resident of Holland Street in Hampton SC died early Sunday morning, May 26, 2024, at the Veterans Victory House in Walterboro SC.
Born in Allendale County SC on May 12, 1937, Mr. Horne was the son of the late Hainyard Liston Horne, Sr. and Verona Ruth Rouse Horne. A wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and uncle, he was first married to the late Janet Smith Horne and then to the late Eugenia Polk Horne. He was a proud veteran having served in the United States Army and the National Guard. Mr. Horne retired after many years as a Pipe Fitter at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and was a welding instructor at Barnwell Vocational School.
Mr. Horne graduated from Allendale High School. He played football, basketball, baseball and ran track. He was a two-time state champion in class A low hurdles. He briefly attended The University of South Carolina Jack, as friends called him, enjoyed hunting, shag dancing, music and the "Gamecocks".
Jack was enthusiastic guitar "picker". He played many Saturday night dances at the Hampton Nation Guard Armory through the years. In addition to the Amory dances, Jack also performed at many festivals throughout the low country including the Hampton Watermelon Festival.
Mr. Horne was a member of Beech Branch Baptist Church in Luray SC and was a Master Mason and life member of Hammerton Lodge No. 332.
Surviving are his two sons: David Horne and his wife Marguerite "Pat" of Summerville, SC and Michael Horne and his wife Theresa "Terrie" of Ladson, SC; his one daughter: Cheryl Hardesty (Paul) of James Island, SC; one sister: Helen Rosenburg of Manassas, VA; five grandchildren: Keith ,Seth, Brian (Stephanie), Jimmy (Kerry),and Amy; 7 great-grandchildren: Sophia, Stephen, Amanda (Ryan), Matthew (Tori), Jacob (Maddie), Shane (Cierra) and Michael; and 7 great-great-grandchildren: Kali, Kade, Elley, Shane Jr., Carson, Saige, and Brenleigh Grace.
In addition to his parents and his two wives, he was predeceased by two brothers: Liston Horne Jr. and Bobby Horne.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 2 PM in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry St. E. in Hampton, SC. Burial will follow in the Gooding Cemetery in Crocketville, SC.
Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home of Hampton is assisting the family during this time.
