J. Lee Cope

Mr. J. Lee Cope, Sr., 88, of Holly Street in Hampton died Wednesday morning at his residence.

Mr. Cope was born February 2, 1930 in Hampton County, a son of the late John F. Cope and Jemima Thames Cope.  He retired from Westinghouse Corporation in Hampton, and was a member of the Hampton First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Secretary, and was active with the Clothes Closet Ministry.  He was married to the late Bessie Peeples Cope.

Surviving are:  son:  Johnny Lee Cope Jr. and wife Debra of Varnville; daughter:  Janice C. Warren and husband Don of Hampton;  brother:  Rogers Cope and wife Myrtis of Varnville;  and grandchildren:  Drew and Brian DeLoach and Alan and Rachel Cope.

Funeral services will be 3 PM Saturday in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Emerson Wiles with burial in the Hampton Cemetery.

Visitation will begin Saturday at 2 PM prior to services at the Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry Street West in Hampton.
